Najla Abu Oweida began her career as kindergarten teacher in a Palestinian refugee camp in Jerash, Jordan. She was so popular among parents and students, Najla decided to leave the kindergarten where she was employed and strike out on her own. Najla’s classrooms quickly filled up, and so did demand for her to expand her school to third grade.
After expanding to third grade, demand soon grew for Najla to expand to tenth grade. Knowing that older students would need computers, vocational education, and technical laboratories to prepare them for college or work, Najla turned to FINCA for access to a $4,000 loan to fully equip her school. Today, her thriving school has 24 classrooms and provides hundreds of children with the education they need to build brighter futures for themselves.
